Supply

Where Steelcase comes from in Seattle

Steelcase is the default spec for large floorplates, so the second life supply follows the big corporate footprints. In Seattle that plays out through South Lake Union, Pioneer Square and Bellevue. Large tech occupiers and their supply chain, plus the professional services firms that grew around them. Sustainability commitments here are usually published, which means diversion reporting is a requirement rather than a nicety. Campus-scale refreshes release matched benching and sit-stand in quantity. Diversion documentation matters as much as the resale credit on most of these projects.

Getting it in the door

What Seattle buildings do to a Steelcase order

Newer towers in South Lake Union with proper docks, older brick in Pioneer Square where the elevator decides the spec, and suburban campuses on the Eastside with badge access and escort rules. That matters more for seating, desks and collaboration than people expect. Bulk seating clears most access constraints here. Panel systems, casegoods, and anything over eight feet do not, which on this line means the Leap Chair gets an access check before it gets a price.

The number

What Steelcase costs second life here

Steelcase sits in the premium tier new, which is exactly why second life is worth the trouble: 45-60% off, second life, on a piece that carried a 12-year manufacturer warranty from the factory. Cross-lake moves cost time, not just mileage. We schedule Eastside and city work on separate days rather than fighting the bridges.

The fit

Why this line lands in Seattle

The biggest office furniture company in the world. Research-driven, commercial-grade, and built to last. The Leap and the Gesture are everywhere, for good reason. Set that against what Seattle actually asks for — Tech campus experience, Sustainability focus and Eastside coverage — and the Leap Chair and Gesture Chair are the two pieces we place most often here.

Buying second life, answered.

RESEAT sells second life commercial furniture across San Francisco, the Peninsula, Silicon Valley, and the East Bay. Inventory comes out of Bay Area decommissions and campus refresh programs, which is why matched volume lots are available here that are hard to find in other markets. Pricing runs 40 to 60 percent below the same piece new.
Usually yes. Large Bay Area floorplate exits, particularly in San Jose and along the Silicon Valley campus corridor, release hundreds of identical chairs in a single finish. The constraint is timing rather than quantity: register the requirement before the lot lands, because matched volume does not sit on the market.
Everything is inspected and graded before it is offered. A-grade is for client-facing and high-touch areas. B-grade is sound and suits back of house, and a small refresh budget for reupholstery, refinishing, and new casters converts most of it to A-grade appearance for a fraction of the price difference. Anything that fails inspection goes to recycling rather than to a buyer.
MillerKnoll, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Humanscale, Teknion, HNI, and Okamura. Because we are an open line dealer, we can mix brands inside one schedule instead of steering a project toward whichever manufacturer we are contracted to. Note that Herman Miller no longer exists as a standalone brand: it is MillerKnoll.
From available inventory, weeks rather than the months a new furniture order takes. Lead time is one of the most underrated arguments for second life, particularly for growth-stage Bay Area teams working to a move-in date they cannot move.
